Technical Services at Brunel University of London are seeking a Technician or Senior Technician in Biomechanics to support teaching and research across the Department of Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences (SHES) and the Department of Health Sciences.
This is an exciting time to join our team. Health Sciences has recently secured a £540,000 Wolfson Foundation grant to create a state-of-the-art, fully accessible biomechanics laboratory due to open in 2026. This role will support both existing facilities and the development of the new laboratory, working with academic staff, students, and external collaborators across multiple buildings.
We are seeking a passionate individual with hands-on biomechanics experience and strong technical and problem-solving skills. You will support teaching and research through the operation, maintenance, and development of specialist equipment, including motion capture systems, force plates, EMG systems, instrumented treadmills, walkways, and dynamometers. Experience with data processing and analysis using software such as MATLAB or Python would be advantageous.
For appointment at Grade 5 (Technician), you will have practical technical experience and provide support to students, researchers, and academic staff while contributing to the effective operation of laboratories and equipment.
For appointment at Grade 6 (Senior Technician), you will demonstrate significant technical expertise, providing specialist advice, advanced support, mentoring, and training. You will lead on technical procedures, troubleshooting, capability development, and continuous improvement.
For both grades, a strong understanding of laboratory health and safety, together with excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills, is essential.
At Brunel, you will join a friendly and highly skilled Technical Services team that supports the Technician Commitment and contributes to the Brunel TechNet community. This is an excellent opportunity to help shape a major new biomechanics facility while supporting innovative research and an outstanding student experience within a leading multidisciplinary university.
We offer a generous annual leave package plus discretionary University closure days, excellent training and development opportunities as well as a great occupational pension scheme and a range of health-related support. The University is committed to a hybrid working approach.
Closing date for applications: 23 November 2026
