Salary: Grade 8 from: £45,140 to £57,803 inclusive of London Weighting with potential to progress to £64,606 per annum, inclusive of London Weighting, through sustained exceptional contribution

As a key member of the Network Team, the Technical Engineer ensures the efficient operation of the University’s network. The role involves leading network projects, resolving complex issues, and developing network services and infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Support
- Lead the resolution of complex network issues.
- Develop and enhance network services and infrastructure.
- Provide expertise in designing and installing network systems, cabling, and IT infrastructure.
- Deliver 3rd line support for all network services.
- Maintain high-quality customer service standards.
- Use management, workflow helpdesk, and provisioning tools.
- Ensure smooth operation of critical infrastructure.
Operational & Development Support
- Lead/assist in the design, implementation, and management of ICT network services.
- Provide 3rd line support for network services and infrastructure.
- Monitor network performance using various tools.
- Set up and configure servers and network services.
- Ensure network documentation is maintained and updated.
- Work within the Networks Team to support infrastructure, security, and service evolution.
Technical Expertise
- Stay updated on network developments and standards.
- Work with routers and switches.
- Act as a subject matter expert in at least three of the following areas:
- Security
- Wireless
- Routing & Switching
- Network Access Control
- Firewalls
- Telephony
- Identify and mitigate emerging network threats.
- Support multiple hardware and software platforms, including Microsoft, Apple, Linux, and Android.
- Implement network connectivity in a large BYOD environment.
- Participate in project and change management.
- Mentor and train network team members and front-line support teams.
- Produce service documentation, help guides, and videos.
- Work with external contractors on IT projects and fault resolution.
