The objective of the post is to contribute the delivery of a collaborative project funded by EPSRC entitled ‘Development of next generation disruptive mega-casting technologies for green and sustainable transportation vehicles (MegaCast)’ with a special focus on precision design and manufacturing of the die/mould with multiscale smart surfaces for high pressure die casting purposes.
The duties that are required for this specific role includes:
- Multiscale multiphysics modelling and analysis of engineering surfaces for precision die/mould.
- Interfacial analysis of engineering surfaces under extreme engineering conditions (multiscale multiphysics, high pressure, high temperature, and multiphase flows, etc).
- Precision manufacturing of the die/mould with multiscale smart surfaces for high pressure die casting purposes.
- High precision CNC machining: tooling, toolpath simulation, CAD/CAM, and implementation perspectives.
- Understanding the fundamental of melt filling and solidification under different interfacial conditions.
- Supporting the research activities to deliver new state of the art for automotives.
- Preparing project progress reports and final report of project.
- Preparing and delivering presentations at internal seminars and project progress meetings, and at national and international conferences.
- Working collaboratively with other members of the research group, including mutual assistance with research activities, and with external partners (R&D and/or industrial).
The successful candidate should have:
- PhD degree or equivalent in manufacturing science and engineering, precision engineering or other suitable engineering disciplines.
- Research experience in manufacturing science and engineering, and a deep working knowledge of design modelling and analysis of engineering surfaces and associated multiscale precision manufacturing are essential.
- He/she should have good communication and presentation skills and be a team player.
We offer a generous annual leave package plus discretionary University closure days, excellent training and development opportunities as well as a great occupational pension scheme and a range of health-related support. The University is committed to a hybrid working approach.
Closing date for applications: 31 July 2025
Interviews will take place on the week starting from 11 August 2025 virtually using Microsoft Teams.
