These include:

i)   Heat to power conversion systems in particular those based on the supercritical carbon dioxide cycle (sCO2);

ii)  Hydrogen systems for heating, cooling and power generation.

iii) High temperature heat pumps for domestic and industrial applications.

v)  Thermal energy storage systems.

The research is supported by extensive experimental and pilot test facilities within the Centre for Sustainable Energy Use in Food Chains which are being developed further to address the needs of the projects. These include:

i)    Environmental test chambers for heat pump and refrigeration system research at controlled conditions.

ii)   Heat exchanger test facilities.

iii) Supercritical CO2 60 kW pilot system

iv) Fully equipped hydrogen laboratory.

The successful applicant is expected to have a PhD in a relevant area and excellent skills in thermodynamic modelling and dynamic simulation of power and other thermodynamic cycles and the use of Computational Fluid Dynamis for the optimisation of heat and mass transfer equipment. S/he will also be expected to have a good understanding of controls and practical experience with instrumentation and Data Acquisition Systems and associated software.

The appointee will also be expected to have very good communication skills and be able to work closely with other researchers in the group and project collaborators.
