The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Mechanical Engineer to fast-track their career development as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate. You will undertake a 28-month collaborative project between AIE Ltd and Brunel University London. The post will be based predominantly at the company’s premises in Lichfield where you will deliver the project and transfer knowledge between the university and company. The KTP is led from the Centre for Advanced Powertrain and Fuels within the College of Engineering, Design and Physical Sciences which is a leading and distinctive STEM education and knowledge provider, and a leading multidisciplinary research-intensive college for excellence in research and innovation in engineering, design, computer science and mathematics. You will be supervised by Prof. Hua Zhao (FREng) and Dr Xinyan Wang.

The candidate

You will be a graduate in mechanical engineering, ideally in internal combustion engines with a masters or good (1st or 2:1) first degree. Ideally you will have background knowledge and experience in

  • Operating internal combustion engines
  • Fuel injection testing and imaging via high speed camera;
  • Engine instrumentation and testing on engine dyno testbed;
  • Engine data acquisition system and data analysis;
  • 1D engine modelling and analysis;
  • 3D CFD engine modelling and analysis of fuel injection and combustion process;
  • 3D CAD modelling experience

You will have the ability to plan and organise your own workload, and be able to work to a deadline. With support and training you will take ownership of the project including management of finances, resources and timing.
