As one of the departments within the College of Health and Life Sciences, the Department of Life Sciences undertakes high quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and scientific research across the disciplines of Biosciences (including Environmental Science), Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences, and Psychology. With around 800 undergraduates and 100 postgraduates, the Division of Psychology, delivers an undergraduate course with work placement in Psychology and Psychology & Sport (Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences), a suite of MSc Programmes, including an MSc in Psychology, Culture, and Evolution.
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Division of Psychology to recruit a highly motivated senior academic to support the research strength and teaching capacity in the area of cross-cultural psychology and individual differences. The successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant discipline, high-ranking publications, proven ability to obtain grant-funding, and will be an internationally-recognised leader in cross-cultural and/or personality psychology. They should have experience of supervising undergraduate research students, tutorials and practicals, and have established success in supervising at the postgraduate level.
The post fits well with the College research strategy which involves the establishment, development and strengthening of new College Research Centres, of which the Centre for Culture and Evolution (CCE), led by Professor David Schmitt is one. The post-holder is expected to become an active member of CCE and will be expected to contribute to its development as a world-leading centre for research in cross-cultural psychology, evolutionary psychology, and the cultural evolution sciences. The post-holder is expected to strengthen the research profile of the CCE – augmenting our current strengths and providing mentorship for junior academics, especially researchers in the area of cross-cultural and personality psychology, as we move towards the next Research Excellence Framework exercise.
