The Academic and Student Administration Directorate plays a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing the University’s academic standards and the student experience. Working collaboratively across colleges, central services, and external agencies, the Directorate ensures that the University’s frameworks for quality assurance, governance, and regulatory compliance are robust, transparent, and aligned with national and international expectations.

The Directorate supports the full student lifecycle from programme approval and assessment to graduation, ensuring that Brunel’s academic provision meets the standards set by the Office for Students (OFS), the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA), and relevant Professional, Statutory, and Regulatory Bodies (PSRBs). The team fosters a culture of continuous enhancement, encouraging innovation, inclusion, and accountability across all areas of academic delivery.

The Quality Assurance Manager plays a key role in the oversight, coordination, and enhancement of the University’s quality assurance framework. Reporting to the Senior Quality Assurance Manager, the postholder will lead and manage critical processes including programme approval and modification, periodic review, external examining, and annual monitoring.

The role requires providing expert advice and guidance to academic and professional colleagues, ensuring alignment with sector standards and institutional policies. The postholder will produce and analyse data to inform strategy, support audit and accreditation processes, and prepare high-level reports for university committees. They will act as a change agent, promoting ownership of quality assurance activities, identifying good practice, and leading staff training in quality processes.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in academic quality assurance and regulations, including programme approval, modification, and review within a higher education context, alongside a strong understanding of UK regulatory frameworks such as those of the OFS, QAA, and PSRBs. They will demonstrate excellent analytical and reporting skills, the ability to interpret and present complex information, and outstanding communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively across academic and professional teams. Strong leadership, organisational, and drafting abilities are essential, as is a proven capacity to manage multiple priorities and produce high-quality documentation. The postholder will embody Brunel’s values of openness, courage, and inventiveness, showing initiative, inclusivity, and innovation in quality practice, with the flexibility and resilience to deliver results in a dynamic environment.

We offer a generous annual leave package plus discretionary University closure days, excellent training and development opportunities as well as a great occupational pension scheme and a range of health-related support. The University is committed to a hybrid working approach.
