We are seeking an exceptional finance leader to join the University as our Head of Financial Control. This pivotal role oversees the integrity, accuracy and effectiveness of the University’s financial accounting, controls and reporting environment.

As a senior member of the Finance Leadership Team, you will provide authoritative guidance on financial governance, drive improvements in our control framework, and ensure our statutory and regulatory obligations are met in full. You will also act as a trusted partner to the CFO, deputising as required and providing leadership across the wider finance community.

We are seeking an exceptional finance leader to join the University as our Head of Financial Control. This pivotal role oversees the integrity, accuracy and effectiveness of the University’s financial accounting, controls and reporting environment.

As a senior member of the Finance Leadership Team, you will provide authoritative guidance on financial governance, drive improvements in our control framework, and ensure our statutory and regulatory obligations are met in full. You will also act as a trusted partner to the CFO, deputising as required and providing leadership across the wider finance community.

The Successful Candidate

• Will build and maintain effective business partnering relationships across all departments within the College.
• Oversee management of the annual audit process and preparation of financial statements, ensuring adherence to agreed accounting policies.
• Oversee the implementation and management of an effective and efficient post‑award support service.
• Oversee VAT and all other taxation matters, providing advice as required and leading the relationship with the University’s tax advisors.
• Responsible for the general accounting process, accounting structures, and financial systems across the University.
• Ensure compliance with accounting structures, coding, and processes, and drive improvements as required.
• Responsible for inputting and collecting invoices for services rendered by the University, including credit control and management.
• Responsible for the collection of fees for University accommodation, including hall fees, flats, and summer residences.
• Manage payment and administration of all expense claims, including staff, non‑staff, and examiner claims.
• Develop and embed appropriate KPIs to monitor performance effectiveness within this area.
• Develop programmes to enhance the professional skills and qualifications of the finance community across the University.
• Contribute to the effective working of the central Finance Division team.
• Deputise for the CFO as appropriate.
