Salary: Grade 8: £45,140 to £57,803 inclusive of London Weighting with potential to progress to £64,606 per annum inclusive of London Weighting through sustained exceptional contribution.

Digital Services are looking for a Lead Application Support Engineer to join our Application support Team to support a range of University IT applications. Facilitating high quality Level 2 and Level 3 support for our software applications, ensuring their stability, security, and optimal performance. Being accountable for SLAs and KPIs as agreed with management and our customers. This is a hands on role, in addition to leading the team it will also involve managing configuration changes, patching infrastructure and applications, and collaborating with vendors and internal teams. Working closely with development and service management teams to ensure the best service possible for our customers.

Key responsibilities will be

  • Lead a team of application support engineers
  • Ensure the team meet SLAs and KPIs
  • Provide Level 2 and Level 3 support for web applications
  • Oversee the deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of applications hosted on premises and in the cloud
  • Manage relationships with external suppliers and vendors
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for first line support teams
  • Monitor application performance and implement improvements
  • Ensure adherence to security best practices and compliance standards
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve complex issues and enhance system performance
  • Work with the development team to deliver improvements for the business

 The successful candidate must have

  • Significant experience in leading and managing a team
  • Proven expertise in providing Level 2 and Level 3 support for web applications
  • Strong supplier management skills
  • Experience in writing detailed documentation for first line support teams
  • Proficiency in managing applications hosted both on premises and in the cloud
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines
